DELTA Course Online

DELTA Module Two is a 200-hour course that provides a strong theoretical foundation while giving you the opportunity to apply that theory in practice.

The module includes trainer-led input sessions, taught lessons, feedback tutorials and a series of written assignments. It is designed to help you develop as a teacher by refining your classroom practice, exploring new methods and approaches, responding more effectively to learners’ needs, adapting materials, analysing your own teaching, carrying out research and being able to justify your pedagogical choices with sound theoretical reasoning.

This module focuses on the principles and practice of effective lesson planning and teaching.

Topics include:

• The language learner and the learning context
• Preparing to teach English to language learners
• Evaluating, selecting and using resources and materials
• Managing and supporting learning
• Evaluating lesson planning and teaching
• Observing and evaluating other teachers’ lessons
• Professionalism and opportunities for professional development

Assessment for DELTA Module takes place during the course at an authorised centre and is based on taught lessons (LSAs) as well as written assignments and essays.

An LSA (Language Systems/Skills Assignment) is a lesson with a specific focus. It may target the development of one of the four language skills (Speaking, Listening, Writing or Reading) or focus on a language system (Grammar, Lexis, Phonology or Discourse).

During the course, you will teach four lessons of 45–60 minutes. Three of these are assessed by your course tutors, while the fourth is evaluated by an independent external Cambridge Assessor.

For each lesson, you are required to carry out research and write a 2,500-word background essay, which forms the basis for your lesson on a particular skill or system. You will also need to prepare a detailed lesson plan.

After teaching the lesson, you complete a written self-evaluation in which you analyse your strengths and areas for improvement, reflect on the outcomes of your lesson, and propose ideas for further development.

Throughout the course, you must also complete a Professional Development Assignment, which consists of two written components:

Reflection & Action (2,000–2,500 words)

Experimental Practice (1,500–2,000 words)

To be eligible for the DELTA qualification, candidates are expected to meet the following criteria:

• Age: 20+
• English proficiency: a strong C1 or C2 level on the CEFR
• Theoretical knowledge: a solid foundation in ELT methodology
• Teaching experience: a minimum of three years’ English language teaching experience
• Prior qualification: a CELTA certificate (or an equivalent initial teaching qualification)

Step 1 — Pre-Interview Task
You will receive a short Pre-Interview Task by email immediately after submitting your application. Please complete and return it before your interview.

Step 2 — Course Payment
Once you have been accepted, you will be asked to pay the course fee to confirm your place on the programme.

Step 3 — Pre-Course Task
After your payment has been received, you will receive the Pre-Course Task by email. Completing this task will help you prepare for the start of your CELTA/DELTA course.

Step 4 — Interview with a Trainer
Attend an online or face-to-face interview with one of our CELTA/DELTA trainers to discuss your motivation, experience, and suitability for the course.
